UFC 259 is all about the title fights with three belts on the line in the octagon on Saturday.
Jan Blachowicz (27-8-0) will put his light heavyweight title on the line for the first time on Saturday night in the main event that will air on ESPN+.
The 38-year-old has won four straight matches — and eight of his last nine — coming into a bout with the undefeated Israel Adesanya (20-0-0). “The Last Stylebender” is the belt-holder in the middleweight division and would like another title for his collection.
Amanda Nunes (20-4-0) comes into the weekend already holding two belts, having defended the bantamweight and featherweight titles successfully seven times combined already. Megan Anderson (11-4-0) will look to relieve “The Lioness” of the latter belt in what would be a massive upset for the Australian challenger.
Aljamain Sterling (19-3-0) has had to wait a little longer than he’d hoped for his shot at Petr Yan’s bantamweight crown. Their fight was slated for December, but pushed back due to COVID-19 restrictions and travel issues. Long Island-native Sterling will have his work cut out for him in Yan (15-1-0), winner of seven straight. Their bout will be the culmination of months of social media trash talk.
The fourth fight on the main card won’t see any titles exchanged, but rising star Islam Makhachev (18-1-0) and veteran Drew Dober (23-9-0) will certainly throw some punches in their lightweight fight. Both are looking to gain ground in an ultra-competitive division that could pay off with a future ranked opponent.
Thiago Santos (21-8-0) and Aleksandar Rakic (13-2-0) are going toe-to-toe for a championship opportunity of their own. The light heavyweight combatants will open the pay-per-view, giving Blachowicz and Adesanya a look at what might await them if they come out victorious.
