The financially strained Packers are making it work.
Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones inked a four-year, $48 million deal with a $13 million signing bonus to remain in Green Bay through 2024, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN Sunday.
“Aaron would have signed for more in free agency but wanted to stay in Green Bay,” Rosenhaus said of Jones’ signing.
Jones, 26, was set to become an NFL free agent this week.
The Packers’ fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft posted a career-high 1,104 rushing yards with nine rushing touchdowns in 14 games last season, earning him his first Pro Bowl invitation. In the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Rams, Jones rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on the way to a 32-18 win for Green Bay.
Jones’ solid 2020 season ended on a sour note with two fumbles and a chest injury in the NFC title-game loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.
